Volunteer FAQs
Your First Stop Before Applying
Before embarking on your volunteering journey with Special Pals, it’s essential to be well-informed. Our FAQ section is designed to answer all your preliminary questions, ensuring a seamless application process and a fulfilling volunteer experience. Take a moment to go through these crucial details – because the best start is an informed start. We look forward to having you onboard!
- All potential volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer on their own.
- Volunteers between the ages of 12 and 17 may volunteer alongside a parent or guardian.
- To ensure everyone's safety, we maintain a one-to-one minor-to-adult ratio.
We value the time and effort our volunteers dedicate to helping our staff and adoptable animals. For this reason, we provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to maximize everyone's impact.
During your initial shifts, you will be paired with an experienced volunteer or staff member who will guide you through your responsibilities and help you become familiar with our procedures. Our goal is to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute effectively as a volunteer and make a positive difference in the lives of our animals.
We ask our volunteers to make a commitment to support our organization consistently. To ensure continuity and maintain a productive volunteer program, we request the following commitments from our volunteers:
- A minimum monthly commitment of four (4) volunteer hours.
- A commitment to serve at our shelter for a minimum of six (6) months.
To cover the costs of volunteer materials and resources, we require a one-time fee of $25. This fee includes a volunteer t-shirt and name badge. The volunteer t-shirt and name badge will help identify you as a valued member of our team.
